We all know the power of social media marketing in the salon industry, right? We have the opportunity to reach thousands and thousands of people — including potential clients — with one quick post.
As a service provider, you can build relationships with potential guests with the click of a button. However, conveying your message and your brand through social media can be a huge challenge.
It’s all about the content, content, content. These days, quick videos, branded images, and beautiful photos are just a few ways to attract new guests and increase engagement. But, you need the right tools to set all of this in motion.
Since my entire business is built on social media, I have discovered some of the coolest apps that will help make your life a little easier, and also help you to increase your engagement. I totally have you covered.
The 8 Best Apps to Boost Your Social Media Engagement
This app is great for creating one-minute videos or animated picture videos, and it’s a perfect way to showcase your work and your beautiful photos. You can create a slideshow of your work or even a slideshow collage. Quik provides different templates and you can add music that suits your brand. (And not to worry, the music is royalty-free.) The best part? Quik is free.

2. Hashtags for Likes
OMG — I love this one! All you have to do is type in your industry or a keyword, and it spits out the most popular related hashtags. You can put in a category like beauty or hair and the app will give you the most popular hashtags from the last 24 hours. Then you just copy and paste them into your Instagram post! Tip: Be sure to post your local hashtags as well, and put your hashtags in a different order every time you post.

Tutorials and educational videos are a solid way to position yourself as an expert in your industry, and Overvideo allows you to put text overlay and voiceover on all of your videos. If you are a hairstylist or makeup artist, this is critical for tutorial videos, and this type of content is great for IGTV.

Love this! Canva is hands down my go-to app to create my ad pieces, fliers, banners, collages, and so much more. It’s the perfect way to create brand-consistent ads with your most beautiful photos. While the pro edition gives you tons of options, the free version is truly amazing.

6. Adobe Spark Post
My new fave! This app allows you to create automated fliers, posters, and ad pieces — and it comes with a ton of templates. You can resize for Insta stories and Facebook and make it all brand-consistent. You can also do voiceover videos on this app as well. This app will also allow you to put your brand colors in and will create ads that are branded and ready to go. This is literally the best $9.99 I spend every month.

This one is a new favorite for me. You can add music, sound effects, filters, and so much more in this app. And guess what? It’s free! It is so easy to use and they have a pretty decent music selection as well. I can promise you: You will love this app for all your video needs.

8. Facetune 2
This app is a great way for you to white out the background of all your photos to make your hair color POP! You can also remove blemishes, smooth out your guests’ skin, and add some lipstick or light makeup to your photos. (I’m not big on filtering photos of your work, but if you have a guest that’s not cool with taking photos because they came in without makeup, this is a great option. Less is more for sure.) This app is free with the option to upgrade — the pro version is $3.99 a month.

Bonus: My Favorite Tips and Tricks for Taking Photos for Instagram
Before you go, here are my top three tips for taking the best photos possible for Instagram.
- If you have an iPhone, the portrait setting on the camera is amazing for taking professional-ish photos.
- Be sure to take your before and after photos in the same location with the same lighting. It looks more cohesive when sharing on social.
- Lighting makes a huge difference too! I recommend using a ring light. You may not have the best lighting in your space, but the ring light can make all the difference.
